About this course
Oregon asks every LPC and LMFT for 6 hours of professional ethics and/or Oregon laws and rules each renewal period (OAR 833-080-0011(2)(a)). This course covers both: the Board, the practice act, and the OAR chapter 833 rules, plus the 2014 ACA Code that Oregon adopts and the 2026 AAMFT Code. You will also work through confidentiality and privilege, Oregon abuse reporting, records, fees and advertising, telehealth across state lines, boundaries, and supervision, with composite vignettes at the end.
CE credit is awarded after you complete the reading, pass the post-test at 70% or higher, and complete the evaluation.
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the Oregon Board's authority, the practice act at ORS 675.705 to 675.835, license renewal, and Oregon's continuing education rules.
- Apply Oregon's rules on professional disclosure statements, client records, custodians of record, discipline, and reporting of colleagues and of oneself.
- Explain how the Board's adoption of the 2014 ACA Code applies to LPCs and LMFTs, and where the 2026 AAMFT Code differs.
- Use and document an ethical decision-making model that includes Oregon law.
- Apply ORS 675.765, the Oregon Evidence Code privileges, ORS 109.675 and 109.680, and HIPAA to confidentiality questions, including danger to others.

- Apply ethical and legal standards to informed consent, client access to records, fees, and advertising.
- Apply OAR 833-110-0071, limited permits, and the technology standards of the codes to telehealth and practice across state lines.
