About this course
This course is an educational overview. It is not EMDR training, is not approved by EMDRIA, does not offer EMDRIA credits, and does not qualify anyone to practice EMDR. Clinicians who wish to provide EMDR therapy should complete an EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Basic Training.
This course presents EMDR therapy and the research on it, including its debates, and does not endorse or reject it.
This course is for California BBS licensees and registrants who want an accurate overview of EMDR therapy and the research on it. Topics:
- EMDR’s origins, the adaptive information processing model, and the eight phases, at a conceptual level only
- How the 2023 VA/DoD guideline (strong) and the 2025 APA guideline (conditional) rate EMDR
- The dismantling research on eye movements and the “purple hat” critique
- Head-to-head trials with prolonged exposure
- Long-term outcomes and dropout
- A “Critical appraisal: both sides” section
- Client factors and cautions discussed in the literature, and how to verify a therapist’s training
- Ethics, scope, and informed consent
The course does not teach EMDR procedures. Eleven sections, with worked cases, FAQs, and key points. Color and Print Friendly PDFs. Included in the $69 bundle, or $9 on its own.
CE credit is awarded after you complete the reading, pass the post-test at 70% or higher, and complete the evaluation.
