After each mock, Scout walks through it with you
Scout is your study buddy. After every mock, Scout goes over each case with you in plain words: what the case was asking, why the best answer fits, and where to spend your next study hour.
You also get a score report by content area: your strongest areas, where Scout helps next, and patterns by step of Scout’s 6-Gate Check. Questions to revisit are marked in amber ● To revisit, never in red.
Practice score only. It does not predict your exam result.
Hi friend,
I remember studying for my licensing exam. I'd pay for two mock exams, then hunt for more. The cost added up, and I never knew if any of it would help.
In the counseling room, we use judgment and intuition in the moment. The exam has its own logic, and that's what trips up good clinicians. These practice exams follow that logic, and Scout walks you through the reasoning after each one.
A test score doesn't decide how good a clinician you are. It's just one step on the way to your license. I'm a clinician too, and I know the pain points. These are here to make that step as painless as possible.
All the best,
Oliver
Questions
Do I need an account to try the free case?
No. Open the free practice case and start. No login or email needed.
What is the exam screen like?
Whole cases in a fixed order: an intake, then two later sessions, with the case on the left and one question at a time on the right. Our timer uses the current exam’s pace: 225 minutes for 11 cases, about 20 minutes each. A full mock has an optional 15-minute break after case 5, as in the current NCMHCE format (through June 30, 2027). On the real exam, one case and some questions are unscored. Every practice case here is scored. When we say “the real exam,” we mean the current NCMHCE format (through June 30, 2027).
How much is it?
$39. It is a one-time purchase, and the mocks are yours to keep.
Can I download anything?
Yes. After each mock you can download Scout’s review as a PDF: your answers, the best answers, Scout’s explanations, and your scores. The exams themselves run in your browser and are not downloadable.
Do I keep the mocks I buy?
Yes. The 8-mock pack and its Scout reviews are yours to keep forever.
Are these real exam questions?
No. Every case is original, written to NBCC’s published content outline. None are actual exam items.
What happens when the exam format changes in 2027?
From July 1, 2027, NBCC changes the exam to a 10-case format with half-by-half review, scaled scoring, and new content area labels. Your free update covers the new 10-case format, half-by-half review, and scaled scoring, not only the new area labels.
Does my practice score tell me if I will pass?
No. Practice score only. It does not predict your exam result, and there is no pass guarantee.
Refunds
You can get a full refund within 3 days of purchase as long as you haven’t started a full practice exam. Trying the free sample doesn’t count. After you start a full exam, or after 3 days, we’re not able to offer a refund. To ask for a refund, email support@californiacounselorceus.com.
